Since I'm a junior in college now, I'm focusing on more specialized classes for my major. However, because I still pay the same amount in tuition during the fall and spring, no matter how many classes I take, I want to take a class in designing mechanical stuff. Hopefully, something that could teach me how to design a roll cage that could stand up to anything. Maybe, something that could help me design other stuff in my garage. Basically, I want to take a class where I get taught how to design stuff that can hold up to the laws of physics.
Any ideas as to what type of class I should take? A drafting class? Mechanical design? Where should I concentrate? What should I be looking for in a class?

Welding! Triangulation is simple compared to that.

Sadly, my college doesn't offer a welding or metal shop course :(

Maybe just find a local community college style welding course?

Also there are a lot of good books on the subject. Circle track mag has an advertiser that lists a bunch of race car engineering and fab books.
